To Whom It May Concern:
CTC has made provision in offering free test waivers for two years and waiving test requirement’s for prospective teachers upon which I am truly grateful for. I would like to propose or make a suggestion that California revamp its road-map entirely for prospective teachers. There are many qualified prospective teacher’s that have struggled with standardized test, such as the CSET examinations , RICA, CalTPA, and TPE ( some prospective teachers have entered into their ninth or tenth year in trying to pass CSET and other standardized exams). The thought of many of these teachers enrolling into a teaching credential program or district intern program can be hopeful, yet, testing needs to be complete within 6 months of beginning student teaching. Some of these prospective teachers might not have subject matter competency, but, possess a B.A., Master’s Degree, and or Ph.D. Higher education is distinguished teacher preparation that also have these same duplicate courses such as the teaching credential programs and or District intern programs. There is curriculum/instruction, practicuum, and pedagogy/methodology which you acquire and learn rigorously in school and a teaching program. California has prominent prospective teachers that find these teacher road-maps a nightmare and tremendous disadvantages and certainly a roadblock that prevents them from becoming a teacher. Many of these prospective teachers are not asking for a hand up, but, a clear road-map that will support, provide the right resources, create equitable opportunities for all, and revamping tests to allow everyone to pass successfully on the first or second try. How can we begin to revamp? May my comment be read for the meeting on Oct 17th or Oct 18th? I look forward to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Marshay Crane
