Dear Members of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing,
I am writing to support the inclusion of Standard 8: Effective Mathematics Instruction in PK-3 Settings. I am the Math Coordinator at the San Mateo County Office of Education. We provide support for mathematics teaching and learning in preschool through high school. We recognize the importance of early mathematics education and how it provides the foundation for later mathematics learning. Additionally, a strong foundation of early mathematics concepts and skills provides students both access and choice as they make decisions about which math courses to take at the secondary level. The proposed additions will support teachers of young learners to understand and deliver high-quality early mathematics teaching and learning.
