I believe that teachers and students will benefit from a credential, however the proposed PK-3 credential is not the best option. Perhaps for newly income teachers, this is a great option as they will have the opportunity to work with a greater age group. For teachers that have been working in the field for years or teachers that only want to teach a younger age group (not 1st-3rd), this option will only cost them to go a different route. Proposing a credential for teachers from birth-TK is an option that should be looked at. Working at different schools, I have seen many schools suffering from low staffing. Why create another problem to have stressed teachers go back to school to gain extra units and do internships in an area they exceed in but not necessary want (teaching 1st-3rd)?
