    Information/Action 3B: Update on State-Funded Grant Programs

    This agenda item presents an update on five state-funded grant programs: the California Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program; the Integrated Teacher Preparation Program; the California Center on Teaching Careers; the Teacher Residency Grant Programs (Capacity, Expansion, and Residency); and the Local Solutions to the Shortage of Special Education Teachers Grant Program. This agenda item also presents the 2018 annual report on the California Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program as required by statute for Commission review and approval to transmit to the Legislature.

    Closed Session - November 29, 2018

    The Commission will go into Closed Session pursuant to California Government Code section 11126, to consider the following pending litigation: Carroll v. Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Sacramento Superior Court, 34-2012-00135527-CU-OE), Emiterio Escobar v. Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Los Angeles Superior Court, BS171090), and Daniel Lindstrom v. Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and Does 1 to 20 (Sacramento Superior Court, 34-2017-80002760). The Commission will also consider adverse actions, Petitions for Reinstatement, Proposed Decisions, Decisions and Orders, and requests for reconsideration in discipline cases while in Closed Session pursuant to California Education Code sections 44245, 44248, and Government Code section 11126. The Commission will report out of Closed Session appropriately concerning any and all actions taken or determinations made therein.

    Information 3F: Initial Employment of New Teachers in California

    Commission staff conducted a pilot study of the 2012-13 cohort of newly credentialed teachers focused on initial employment rates between 2013 and 2018. The intent of this pilot effort was to develop a better understanding of employment patterns and factors affecting teacher retention. Staff will present the findings of this pilot study during the Commission meeting for discussion and feedback, with the intent of including these kinds of data analyses in the annual Teacher Supply Report in the future.
